The year 2021 marks the golden jubilee of Bangladesh. But the time space that Awami League government, credited for leading the struggle for freedom in 1971, got to transform the country doesn’t even account for half of these 50 years.

A war-ravaged country, born through a ocean of blood, Bangladesh was rebuilt from scratch by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman within three years of its Independence. Harnessing scanty resources he drove the nation on the road to self-sufficient Bangladesh. But his life was cut short by a hub of anti-liberation conspirators who spared not even his family members, paving the way for military rulers who pushed the country into the pit of darkness.

Again, braving a sea of hurdles, Awami League, with the promise of uplifting the country from that devastation, formed the government in 1996 with people’s mandate. They rebuilt the economy from the pit.

But in 2001, the anti-liberation BNP-Jamaat alliance formed the government once more. Owing to this, the self confessed war criminals again given a free reign. Those who had committed the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 became the ministers of Bangladesh. During that darkest tenure of the country’s history, Bangladesh ranked first in corruption in the entire world for five years in a row. The notorious Hawa Bhaban turned into the center of terrorism, corruption, and misrule.

Then the Awami League-led alliance was voted with the people’s mandate again in 2008. They came to power with the promise of building Digital Bangladesh, as spelled out in their election manifesto. Since then, Bangladesh Awami League has been advancing the country by ensuring that digital transformation in all spheres.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu envisioned the country’s development, which is now carried forward by his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
