The popularisation of freelance outsourcing is a core initiative pioneered by Sufi Faruq Ibne Abubakar. Although freelance outsourcing had begun gaining recognition in Bangladesh by 2007, its widespread adoption remained constrained by the severe lack of broadband internet infrastructure. From 2008 onwards, as internet costs began to decline, connectivity became increasingly accessible. Recognizing this pivotal moment, Sufi Faruq Ibne Abubakar launched this dedicated initiative to mainstream and popularise freelance outsourcing across the country. The programme was initially rolled out with the assistance of the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and was subsequently managed through his own organization, Projuktite Bangladesh (Technology in Bangladesh).

The Freelance Outsourcing Popularisation Programme
Under the auspices of this programme, introductory seminars and practical training workshops on freelance outsourcing were conducted across various remote and rural regions of Bangladesh. Furthermore, dedicated outsourcing support groups were established to provide ongoing mentorship. This project served as a profound source of inspiration for thousands of young individuals, many of whom have since successfully established themselves as prominent freelancers, earning numerous national and institutional accolades.

The project remained actively operational until 2014. By this time, freelance outsourcing had achieved substantial popularity and mainstream acceptance across Bangladesh. Consequently, as the government stepped forward to launch state-sponsored freelance outsourcing training initiatives nationwide, the decision was made to conclude the project, having successfully fulfilled its foundational mission.
